While we continue our preparedness efforts, now is the perfect time for you to create or review your severe weather plan ahead of hurricane season, which begins June 1. Get storm ready with nine simple tips and reminders to complete over the next 90 days to help prepare you, your family and your home while staying connected with us. Start preparing today with these steps:

Build or review your hurricane preparedness kit
  • Confirm you have a seven-day supply of non-perishable food and water and check their expiration dates.
  • Make sure to restock other supplies as needed, like cleaning products.
  • Replace the batteries in flashlights and radios and recharge backup power banks.
  • Refill your first aid kit and check the expiration dates on medications and prescriptions.

Review or create your emergency plan
  • If you don’t have a plan in place, make one. If you do, review, update and be sure to share it with your family. Include how to contact each other, meeting locations and how to stay updated with the latest information.
  • Sign up for Power Alert Service® and get alerts when outages affect your home or business, restoration time estimates and a notification when power is restored.

Consider including a first aid kit, flashlight, portable phone charger and non-perishable foods.

Survey your landscape and trim trees and plants that might grow to interfere with power lines

It’s your responsibility to maintain the vegetation on your property. However, please do not attempt to trim any vegetation growing on or near power lines. CenterPoint is responsible for keeping vegetation away from our transmission equipment. If your trees are too close to power lines, call us at 713-207-2222 to request tree trimming assistance.
